Spiral

Spiral (2019)
In my work, a girl climbs up and down a ladder repeatedly. This seemingly simple and repetitive action symbolizes more than just movement—it represents the law of individual development: spiral rise. Human growth and progress are often indirect and circuitous. At times, it may appear that one is stuck in the same place, making no visible progress, but in reality, they are moving forward in a spiral. As Engels described in Dialectics of Nature: "Development caused by contradictions or the negation of negation—the spiral form of development." Each cycle of repetition is built upon a higher foundation.
To me, the spiral is a metaphor for the trajectory of life. The start and end points may remain unknown, but as long as there is movement, every loop of the spiral ascends to a higher level. Through this series, I aim to explore the trajectories and stories of others’ lives, as well as the patterns and principles that govern their existence and the world around them.
