Death Declaration

Death Declaration(2019 - Present)

This work, Death Declaration, centers on ruins—primarily rural demolition sites and abandoned buildings in remote areas of China. Through these remnants, I seek to explore why we choose to abandon certain objects and spaces as we rush forward in the name of progress, and how the very creations that once held meaning are eventually forgotten.

In stark contrast to the rapid development and prosperity of cities, these ruins stand as silent witnesses to the lives that once unfolded within them, often regarded as the overlooked “shadow” of modernization. Labeled as useless and outdated, they are discarded and left to decay, becoming symbols of obsolescence and neglect. Through this series, I aim to shine a light on these forgotten places, encouraging viewers to contemplate their significance and what they reveal about the choices we make in our pursuit of progress and the shifting values of our society.
